Nigerian Chinchin Recipe: Simple, Quick and Perfect

Nigerian Chinchin Recipe

Nigerian Chinchin is a well-known snack. It's made of a basic mixture of flour, sugar, and milk. Other optional ingredients, such as eggs, baking powder, and nutmeg, are available, but these are determined based on personal preference.

It can be either crunchy or hard. The recipe serves as a medium between both. You can make your final product more difficult by omitting the egg and adding 1/2 cup of flour.

You can adjust the recipe to suit your needs. You can double, triple or quadruple this recipe if you have to make more than one.

Chinchin Recipe Ingredients

  • 3 cups of flour (375g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • A pinch of nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup sugar (100g)
  • 1/2 cup of baking margarine (115g)
  • 1/2 to 2/3 cup liquid water or milk
  • Optional: 1 egg If you want a soft chin, use this product.
  • Oil for frying In a large bowl

Directions

  • Combine flour, baking powder, and sugar. Mix in the margarine until it is well combined (it should look similar to breadcrumbs).
  • Mix the egg with a cracker.
  • Add water to the flour mixture until it becomes slightly sticky but still elastic. Do not add too much water at once.
  • The dough can be rolled out on a flat surface and then cut into the desired shapes.
  • Place the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Wait until it is hot. Once the dough has formed, fry it one at a time until golden brown.
